VW Volkswagen Type 2 Westfalia Green 1977

This 1977 Volkswagen Type 2 is a pop-top Westfalia camper that was acquired by the seller in 2009. Power comes from a fuel-injected 1,970cc air-cooled flat-four mated to a four-speed manual transaxle, while the body is finished in green over plaid upholstery. The bus is equipped with 14″ steel wheels, front disc brakes, a Bluetooth-capable Pioneer CD stereo, jalousie windows, a folding rear bench, a sleeping loft, privacy curtains, a swing-out table, a sink, a two-burner stovetop, and a shore-power connection port. This Type 2 Westfalia is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The bus was refinished in green with white bumpers approximately three years ago and the rear-hinged Westfalia pop-up top was repainted in 2023. Exterior details include dual side-view mirrors, jalousie windows, a water inlet, a shore-power connection, and crescent-shaped air intakes.

The powder-coated steel 14″ wheels wear chrome VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with 185-series Haida Strong HD718 tires that show 2023 date codes. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. The brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, front pads, rear shoes, and flex hoses were replaced in 2024.

The forward cabin was fitted with replacement green door panels and carpeting, while the bucket seats were retrimmed in green, black, and yellow plaid upholstery in 2023. Attachment points for the included child’s cot are located on the A and B pillars, and additional interior elements include front shoulder belts, hand crank windows, a passenger grab handle, and a Pioneer CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 90-mph speedometer, a fuel level gauge, and warning lights. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 13k miles. The seller states the odometer is not accurate, and true mileage is unknown.

A sliding door on the right opens to reveal the rear cabin, which is equipped with a bench seat that folds into a bed as well as a pop-up tent with a bed platform and a zip-open window. Additional appointments include a sink, an insulated cooler, a two-burner gas stovetop, a swing-out table, storage cabinets, privacy curtains, and a residential-style power outlet. Work in 2023 included installing a woodgrain floor lining and replacing the pop-top material and wood veneer on the cabinets in addition to the door and window seals.

The air-cooled 1,970cc (GE) Type 4 flat-four was factory equipped with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. Per the seller, in 2024 the engine and the fuel tank were removed. The tank was cleaned and the level sender was replaced, while a compression test was performed, endplay was checked, and the intake boots, fuel injector seals, and other miscellaneous gaskets and hoses were replaced on the engine.
