Vespa 400 Baby Blue 1961
This 1961 Vespa 400 was refurbished under previous ownership before it was purchased by the seller out of France in 2014 and imported to the US. Power comes from an air-cooled 400cc two-stroke twin paired with a three-speed manual gearbox. Features include electronic ignition, independent suspension, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, 10″ steel wheels, a front-mounted battery, a louvered decklid, rear-hinged doors, sliding side windows, and a Veglia speedometer. The Vespa 400 was designed by the Italian motor vehicle manufacturer Piaggio and produced by ACMA in Fourchambault, France. Approximately 30,000 examples were produced between 1957 and 1961. The 12-volt battery is housed in a pull-out drawer at the front of the car. A spare wheel is stowed beneath the passenger seat. The independent suspension features coilovers at all four corners, and stopping power is provided by hydraulic drums. The two-spoke steering wheel frames a Veglia 110-km/h speedometer and warning lights for fuel level and battery charge. The air-cooled 400cc Piaggio two-stroke twin was factory rated at 14 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual gearbox.
