Ford Mustang II Drag Car 1974
468-Powered 1974 Ford Mustang II Drag Car
This 1974 Ford Mustang II was reportedly acquired by the original owner as a body-in-white example and was modified as a 468ci Chevrolet V8-powered drag car in the mid-1970s. The car was raced up through the 1980s and spent decades in storage.
Equipment includes a Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission, staggered-width Centerline alloy wheels, tubbed rear-wheel housings, a roll cage, a B&M shifter, an Edelbrock intake manifold, and a Holley 1050 CFM carburetor.
The car was repainted in the 1980s in a white and orange livery with other sponsor graphics. The front and rear suspension have been modified for drag racing and stopping is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes. Further equipment includes a B&M floor shifter, a fire extinguisher, and toggle switches for vehicle functions.
The two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a column mounted AutoMeter tachometer and an aluminum dash insert housing an ammeter and gauges for water temperature and oil pressure. The 468ci Chevrolet V8 was installed in 1976 and features an Edelbrock intake manifold, a Holley 1050 CFM carburetor, an HVH carburetor spacer, an Accel ignition coil, open long-tube exhaust headers, Moroso valve covers, and a radiator with an electric fan.
