Ferrari SF90 Red 2022

The car’s name encapsulates the true significance of all that has been achieved in terms of performance. The reference to the 90th anniversary of the foundation of Scuderia Ferrari underscores the strong link that has always existed between Ferrari’s track and road cars. A brilliant encapsulation of the most advanced technologies developed in Maranello, the SF90 Stradale is also the perfect demonstration of how Ferrari immediately transitions the knowledge and skills it acquires in competition to its production cars.

The SF90 Stradale is the first-ever Ferrari to feature PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) architecture, which integrates the internal combustion engine with three electric motors—two independent units located on the front axle and a third at the rear between the engine and the gearbox.

The internal combustion engine, gearbox, turbocharged air, battery pack, electric motors, inverters, charging systems, and brakes all require cooling. Meticulous attention was paid to the design of the engine bay, which houses both the usual internal combustion engine systems generating temperatures of nearly 900°C and highly temperature-sensitive electronic components.

The SF90 Stradale features an aluminum chassis as well as a magnetorheological suspension. The electronic Side Slip Control (eSSC) system can distribute torque to all four wheels, while the electric traction control system (eTC) can deliver power to individual corners. The regenerative brake system is controlled via a brake-by-wire system that splits braking between the hydraulic system and the electric motors. Red-finished calipers over carbon-ceramic rotors are fitted at all four corners.

The carbon-fiber- and leather-trimmed steering wheel sits ahead of column-mounted carbon-fiber paddle shifters and is equipped with an engine-start button, a manettino driving-mode selector, and shift lights. It frames a digital instrument cluster as well as a head-up display.

The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter F154 FA V8 is linked with a trio of electric motors for a combined power output of 986 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. A 7.9-kWh lithium-ion battery pack is mounted between the engine and the carbon-fiber cabin bulkhead. Power is routed to all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
