Datsun 240Z Coupe 1971
This 1971 Datsun 240Z was restored in 1992 and was used in the proposal that secured Pierre Z Car Center’s involvement with the Nissan North America “Vintage Restoration Program” of the late 1990s, during which approximately 37 cars were purchased, restored, and sold by select dealerships.
Power is provided by a replacement 2.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a push-button AM/FM radio, a tubular exhaust header, an electronic distributor conversion, and a fuse block sourced from a 280Z. The car was featured in Road & Track magazine in February 1997 and in Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car magazine in December 2007.
Features include vents below the rear hatch glass indicating a Series 1 model, front and rear bumper guards, and color-matched aftermarket door mirrors. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. Factory instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and center-mounted gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles.
The 2.4-liter L24 inline-six is a replacement unit that was rebuilt and installed by Pierre Z Car Center in 1992. Factory-rated output was 151 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque.
