Austin 7 Wood Boat Tail Race Car- Brown-Silver 1930
This 1930 American Austin is said to have been fitted with its custom wood and aluminum boattail speedster bodywork before being raced at Bridgehampton Raceway in Sag Harbor, New York. It spent the following decades as a training race car.
Power comes from a 750cc inline-four paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes an eight-volt electrical system, four-wheel mechanical drum brakes, yellow-painted disc wheels, a plexiglass windscreen, and a bench seat trimmed in black upholstery.
The American Austin rode on a 75″ wheelbase and featured a transverse leaf spring up front and quarter-elliptic longitudinal units at the rear. Stopping power is provided by mechanical drums at all four corners.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a dash panel trimmed in black upholstery that houses a passenger-side grab handle, switchgear, and a combination gauge with readouts for battery charge and coolant temperature. The 750cc inline-four was rated at approximately 15 horsepower when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission.
